Application of a Contextual Approach in Indonesian Language Learning to Improve the Ability to Write Poetry

Abstract

Problem Background Learning to write free poetry in grade V SDN is very low. Students' competence in writing, especially in writing free poetry, can be improved if they use appropriate methods, techniques and learning approaches in learning to write free poetry. The research objectives that the researchers achieved through this study wanted to know: 1) Describe the ability to write free poetry of fifth of SDN before learning Indonesian using a contextual approach. 2) Describe student learning outcomes in learning to write free poetry after participating in learning by applying a contextual approach. 3) To describe the response of student interest in learning to write free poetry using a contextual approach. 4) Knowing the obstacles faced by the teacher in learning to write free poetry. This study uses a classroom action research method . The choice of this method is based on the writer's desire to increase the student's ability to write free poetry. This study consists of four components, planning, action, observation, and reflection. The results of the research and discussion are as follows based on the data analysis of the results of the research on the free poetry writing skills of fifth grade elementary school students in the pre-test and in the final test, it is seen that there is an increase in learning outcomes and student interest responses using a contextual approach. Conclusion, the application of a contextual approach to learning Indonesian to write free poetry in fifth grade elementary school students is very good and useful
