Abstract

This research is motivated by the Indonesian language learning carried out in SDN so far still using conventional methods, where in the process the dominant teacher is actively transferring knowledge through the lecture method. The implementation of this research uses the Kemmis and Mc. Taggart, which is a classroom action research with a series of steps starting from planning, acting, observing and reflecting which consists of 3 cycles and each cycle consisting of two actions. The data collection technique was carried out using instruments: observation guidelines, field notes, interview sheets, evaluation sheets, student worksheets. The data obtained were analyzed and reflected using qualitative methods, while numerical data were processed using quantitative methods. The results showed that the use of the fish bowl method can improve students' speaking skills. Students who at first looked stiff, tense, lacked confidence, nervous or nervous about speaking, but after carrying out the action using the fish bowl method, courage and confidence appeared in speaking both in question and answer activities and group discussions. Student learning outcomes after using the fish bowl method in Indonesian language learning showed an increase in individual student scores. This can be seen from the average student evaluation score for each cycle. In the first cycle the average student evaluation score reached 69.61, the second cycle reached 73.46 and the third cycle reached 79.23. This average value shows that the students' speaking skills have increased.
