Along with the time of modern era the understanding of the Qur’an has developed, one of which is understanding of hijab that had become controversion, and causing confusion among people, especially in Indonesia. An Indonesian Mufasir, Muhammad Quraish Shihab, stated that the obligation of hijab for Muslim women is a realm of ikhtilaf. Implicitly he stated that the hijab for Muslim women is arbitrary. This study aims to discover the meaning of veil and to discover similarities and differences in interpretation and implementation of the veil in the Qur’an verse 59 Surah Al-Ahzab based on Tafsir Fi Dzilalil Qur’an and Tafsir Al-Mishbah. This study applies library research, which is carried out using literature be in the form of books, notes, and reports of previous studies. The data sources of this study are all written materials related to this research and the primary sources are Tafsir Fi Dzilalil Qur’an by Sayyid Qutb and Tafsir Al-Mishbah by M. Quraish Shihab. This study applies analytical descriptive method, which prioritizes research of phenomenon, events, and actual conditions in the present. this research will be processed and analyzed to obtain the result. Then datas will be analyzed by applying comparison method, namely interpreting verses of the Qur’an or certain surahs by comparing them (verse with verse), or verse with hadith, or verse with opinions of the interpreting scholars in terms of their differences and similari- ties. Veil in the Qur’an verse 59 of surah Al-Ahzab is a form of the command of Allah Swt. through his Prophet so that his wives, children, and muslim women cover their bodies, their heads, and part of their attires (chest), with veils that cover them so they won’t be harassed and as embodiment of respect towards Muslim women. Part of body that a Muslim woman should covers are around the head to all over the body and let it outstretched so it covers her face and chest as well.
