ABSTRAK Kemajuan teknologi digital dalam dunia fotografi telah menjadikan proses fotografi semakin mudah dan murah, namun juga pada penggunaan teknologi tersebut mengakibatkan pengaburan fungsi fotografi sebagai bukti sejarah karena kemungkinan untuk menghilangkan atau menambahkan elemen gambar pada sebuah data foto dengan teknologi digital sangat lah mudah. Sehingga jika dilihat dari sisi fotografi murni sebagai sebuah upaya melukis dengan cahaya yang melalui sebuah lensa menjadi tidak tepat lagi karena adanya rekayasa citra digital. Hal ini juga mengakibatkan penggunaan jasa fotografer untuk mendokumentasikan pernikahan dalam masyarakat Kota Padang pada awalnya hanya digunakan untuk mendapatkan makna histori atau sebagai bukti sejarah semata, namun pada saat ini dokumentasi foto pernikahan telah menjadi sebuah media untuk meningkatkan citra diri pasangan pengantin di mata masyarakat dan juga sebagai salah satu "jembatan" untuk berkomunikasi dengan para teman melalui jejaring sosial. Sehingga dokumentasi foto pernikahan tidak hanya sekedar kebutuhan untuk mengabadikan sebuah peristiwa, tapi juga menjadi bagian dari pemenuhan terhadap gaya hidup.  Kata kunci: dekonstruksi, dokumentasi foto, fotografi, semiotika, Kota Padang       ABSTRACT Development of digital technology has made photography process easier and cheaper. On the other hands, the use of technology has also resulted in blurring photography function as the historical evidence due to the feasibilty for omitting or adding picture element by using digital technology. Therefore, the meaning of photography as the process of producing images of objects on sensitizied surfaces by the chemical action of light, is no longer appropriate because of manipulated digital image. The results show that Padang community use wedding photographer services to document their wedding is previously aimed as the historical meaning or purely as the historical evidence. Whereas, recently wedding photo documentation also serve as media to boost self-image of the wedding couple in their society. Moreover, it also serves as the "bridge" to communicate with their friends in social media. Thus, wedding photo documentation not only serve as the needs to memorize an important moment, but also part of their lifestyle. Better-off wedding couple use photographer services to maintain their social status, while the lower middle class wedding couple use photographer services to increase their self-image and gain more recognition from the public on their actual social status. Key words: deconstruction, photo documentation, photography, semiotics, Padang City
