PENAFSIRAN AL-QUR’AN DI ERA MODERN:

Abstract

This article discusses Abdullah Saeed's thoughts and his methodology of interpreting the verses of the Qur'an in modern times today. In answering this problem, the authors collect data from primary sources such as Abdullah Saeed's writings, and secondary sources from writings related to the main locus of research. In analyzing the data that has been collected, the author uses the theory of character studies by looking at the environment of the characters being studied and the arguments that are built. After doing a long research, the writer finds that contextual interpretation is an attempt to see the context when a verse was revealed. Context is considered capable of explaining the text, because every text can never be separated from the context of its author. In the study of biblical texts, it is impossible to predict the condition of the author, because he is the word of a transcendent author. Therefore, what needs to be considered is the context in which a verse was revealed. The Qur'anic verse was revealed to answer various problems that are being faced by the Muslim community in the 7th century, if there are other problems, then another verse is used to respond, because there are nasīkh-manūkh in the Qur'anic verse.
