Abstract

The objective of this research is to determine the relationship between husband's perceptions on gender equality in family planning and its participation to the family planning program in Sukajaya Subdistrict, Bogor in 2012.
The analysis results illustrates that 126 people (57.00%) have negative perceptions on gender equality, while 95 of them (43.00%) have positive perceptions. From those 126 husbands who have negative perceptions on gender equality, 64 people of them (50.80%) have a low participation in Family Planning Programs, whereas 62 people (49.20%) of them have a high level participation in Family Planning Programs. Out of 95 husbands having the positive perceptions about gender equality, there were 34 people (35.80%) have a low level participation in Family Planning Program and the remaining number of 61 people (64.20%) have a high level participation in the program mentioned. Husbands possessing such negative perceptions on gender equality in family planning had 1.852 times chances to have a low participation in family planning than those possessing positive perception. Age, occupation, education and income do not affect the relationship between the variables of husband’s perception on gender equality in family planning and the variable of husband’s participation in family planning in Sukajaya subdistrict, Bogor in 2012.
This study, then, recommends to the health practitioners to advocate onto government agencies engaging the family planning programs, particularly National Family Planning Coordinating Board and the Health Ministry in order to increase the activities of CIE (Communication, Information, and Education) regarding Family Planning Program by adding a gender equality perspective.
