Design of an anti-lock braking control system for motorcycles

Abstract

An Anti-lock braking system (ABS) is developed for motorcycles to improve safety during emergent braking conditions. This work describes the design of an anti-lock braking control system for two-wheeled motorcycles. After analyzing and designing the general the ABS for a motorcycle, the electronic control system for the ABS is investigated based on the Arduino Mega microcontroller and speed sensors. The proposed system was assembled in HUSKY motorcycle, and an experiment was conducted under the different initial braking velocities on roads with different adhesive coefficients. The test results have revealed that a motorcycle equipped with the ABS can operate stably and safely, and the effectiveness of the proposed system has been confirmed.
