Studying a numerical model for solving the one dimensional flow acounting for veritcal velocity at the bed of channel with Taylor - Galerkin finite element method

Abstract

In this paper, extended 1D equations accounting for vertical velocities at the bottom of channel are investigated by integration from 2DV equations. The Taylor–Galerkin finite element method is used to solve the numerical solution with the third order accuracy in time. Second order Interpolation functions are used in space discretization. In the Taylor–Galerkin process, the time discretization precedes space discretization. An experiment on physical model is implemented to verify the capacity of the proposed numerical model with different cases of discharges. The very good agreement between numerical rerults and experimental ones can be observed. Nash–Sutcliffe model efficiency coefficients are up to 98%.
