Study on the decomposition process of sludge from wastewater treatment plant in an aerobic condition with cedar chips

Abstract

The paper presents the results of decomposition process evaluation of sludge from waste water treatment plants in an aerobic process with cedar chips. The factors such as temperature, humidity and pH are monitored during the experiment to check the effect on process efficiency. The results show that the rate of decomposition according to the waste reduction volume after 4 weeks in an aerobic condition with cedar chips reached over 20%, about 7% more than without media in the same condition. It means there are differences when combining cedar chíp in an experiment. This rate increased by about 40% in the condition of thermal stability and increased water evaporation. Product after decomposition process is assessed to have significant changes in color, odor and material size. The evaluation index of seed germination ability on the extract solution from products gives a high value of 160-248, so it can be used as a fertilizer according to growth needs of plants.
