A study on producing alumina ceramics for use in crucibles

Abstract

Alumina ceramics which withstand molten metals now play an important role in manufacturing products like crucibles, melting pots for metal, various refractory details. Additives such as dispersion additive (polyelectrolyte), plasticizer, binder are used to improve the shaping process and other properties of alumina ceramics. These additives are very important to give good rheology and other necessary technical properties to the suspension and the green body. In this theme, we study the effect of alumina and additives content on the casting properties of the slurry, the shaping ability, physical properties, apparent porosity as well as surface morphological characteristics of the alumina ceramics.
