Analyzing energy use in buildings using building information model toward sustainability
Abstract
Preliminary assessment of energy consumption in buildings in Viet Nam is a concern for sustainable development in the future. This study has applied the building information modeling (BIM) technology and cloud-based energy analysis tools including Insight and Green Building Studio (GBS) to model energy behavior in buildings. The paper focuses on the impact of the building envelope on opportunities to save energy, as reflected by the energy cost and the intensity of energy use through design solutions of the building walls, windows, window-wall ratio, and building orientation. The energy consumption results are examined by LOTUS green building rating system in Vietnam to assess energy use in buildings.
