Utilization of waste glass in manufacturing of concrete with compressive strength of 350

Abstract

– Along with the rapidly increasing urbanization, the construction demand is inseparable, and concrete cement is a necessary material. However, the manufacturing of cement is always associated with the problem of environmental pollution due to toxic gas emissions and exploitation of natural resources. Besides, glass waste also causes environmental alarm because this waste is not biodegradable. Since the chemical composition of glass is mainly amorphous SiO2 and if it is grounded to fine particle size, this material plays a role of pozzolanic activity, greatly improving the durability of the concrete structure. Therefore, this study aims to reuse waste glass to replace a part of cement in manufacturing concrete and to contribute to reducing environmental pollution. The results of the study show that to ensure the standardly requires performance and strength of concrete with the maximum ratio of glass replacement to cement of 25%.
