Design and simulation of a small, low-speed, closed-loop wind tunnel

Abstract

– Wind tunnels play an important role in experimental research on aerodynamics in many fields. In particular, the closed-loop wind tunnel, with many advantages, is commonly used in universities around the world. In this study, with the aim of manufacturing a wind tunnel for researching and teaching, the author has designed a small closed-loop wind tunnel, working at low speed, about 20 m/s in the test section. The main components of the wind tunnel are calculated to have a suitable shape and size. The characteristics of air movement in the wind tunnel are evaluated by using the numerical method, showing the flow quality and uniformity, especially in the test section. The simulation results show that the designed wind tunnel could be manufactured and used for research in universities.
