Studying effect of rotor slot numbers on efficiency and power factor of line start permanent magnet synchronous motors in steady state

Abstract

These days, line start permanent magnet synchronous motors with high productivity and high power factor in steady state will be a feasible solution to partially replacing squirrel cage induction motors which are widely used. In designing process. Beside stator’s configuration, dimension of magnet rod and the type of magnet material, motor‘s productivity and power factor are especially influenced by the rotor’s configuration. Therefore, this paper studies the effect of number of rotor slots as one of the aspects of rotor’s configuration on productivity and power factor of a 2,2 kW, 3 phase, 4 pole line start permanent magnet synchronous motor. As a result, some good proposals enhancing productivity and power factor of these motors will be extracted.
