THE DEPTH OF LANGUAGE LABORATORY’S ROLE FROM STUDENTS’ PERCEPTION AND ITS IMPACT ON BASIC LISTENING OUTCOMES IN 2019

Abstract

The need of listening skill has been undoubtedly discussed since the need of other receptive skill (reading) is drawn into the circle of language capability. As the students of English Department of IKIP Gunungsitoli are prepared to teach English, capability to “hear”, “listen” and “respond” becomes urgent and substantial. Concerning to several cases of students’ incompetence in listening skill at the previous years, the Language Laboratory of IKIP Gunungsitoli is obtaining strength to become the changing agent facility to compress the issue of such listening incompetence. This study was conducted to unveil the depth of Language Laboratory’s roles from the students’ perception and its impact on learning outcomes in Basic Listening. Through interview and comparison on documents, 35 students of class A the 1st semester were the subject to answer the focus of this research. The descriptive analysis on the result of the research concluded that the Language Laboratory gave deep and valuable role toward the students’ capability of listening competence and was substantial to elevate the positive enhancement of the teaching and learning process, particularly in Basic Listening subject.
