A DESCRIPTIVE ANALYSIS ON THE STUDENTS’ ABILITY IN READING COMPREHENSION TOWARD DESCRIPTIVE TEXT IN SMK NEGERI 1 HILISERANGKAI IN 2020/2021

Abstract

Reading comprehension is highly expected to be mastered by the students, according to the curriculum and every teacher’s expectation. However, to teach well, the students’ ability must be recognized well to synchronize the appropriate approach with the students’ level. Such recognition was rarely investigated in many schools. Considering this situation which happened in SMK Negeri 1 Hiliserangkai particularly in class X-OTKP in 2020/2021, the descriptive qualitative research was conducted to find out: 1) the students’ ability level in reading comprehension on descriptive text and; 2) the factors that affecting the students’ ability. The result showed that the students’ ability level in Reading Comprehension on Descriptive Text was an Adequate level, while the factors that affecting the ability were the frequency of giving the reading material, text types, method of teaching and learning and classroom management.
