Stigma attitudes towards people with mental Illness among high school students in Vietnam.

Abstract

This study is intended to provide an overview of the manifestations of stigma attitudes towards people with mental illness among high school students in some provinces in Vietnam. The study used a scale of stigma attitudes towards people with mental illness, surveying 580 high school students (15-17 years old). The result shows that although the majority of student have a positive attitude, some students still have false beliefs about mental illness, so there is discrimination against people with mental illness. There is a clear difference in sex in some manisfestations, but there is no differenc in grade in most of the stigmatizing attitudes towards people with mental illness. The study proposes some recommendations to help improve students\' mental health understanding to reinforce confidence. Therefore, they will have a positive attitude towards mentally ill people.
