Nasionalisme Sufistik dalam Tarekat Ṣiddīqīyah di Ploso Jombang

Abstract

The discussion about the history of tarekat (Sufi order) has its own uniqueness. This is because every tarekat possesses certain characteristics which are not found in other tarekat, though all Sufi orders generally have the same purpose, namely getting closer to Allah as a fundamental part of the Sufi path. The difference of name and characteristic of each tarekat has always been associated with the experience of its founder when he climbs the path of Sufism. The Tarekat Ṣiddīqīyah, based in Jombang East Java, has been among the existing Sufi orders that possess uniquely exceptional characteristics. This article attempts to specifically review the history of the Ṣiddīqīyah viewed from a number of perspectives, which distinguish it from other Sufi orders. The discussion deals with the emergence of the Ṣiddīqīyah, its teachings, the knowledge base that became the way of this tarekat, and matters concerning with the episteme specificity of the tarekat. The study finds that the Ṣiddīqīyah seeks to uplift a new stream of Sufism, namely al-taṣawwuf al-siyāsī, by emphasizing the existence of a basic relationship between Sufism in Islam and nationalism in Indonesia. The Ṣiddīqīyah also offers the idea of Walisongo of the Republic of Indonesia and August 18, 1945, as the date of birth of Indonesia.
