PENGGUNAAN IDIOM BAHASA SUNDA DALAM KUMPULAN CERPEN HAYANG PANGGIH JEUNG NABI HIDIR

Abstract

This Study discusses about the usage od Sundanese idioms on short stories entitled  Hayang Panggih Jeung Nabi Hidir  (HPJNH). Idiom as one of language expression and variation is very interesting to be explored. Based on qualitative paradigm to reveal the shape and meaning of those Sundanese idioms on HPJNH as well as its fundamental problem. The purpose of the study is to describe and identify Sundanese idioms form, meaning, and genre on HPJNH. Such supporting concepts use on the study are Makkai (1972:22—34), Palmer (1981:80—82) and Alwi et al (2003:157—158). Their findings were idiom in Sundanese from contained in a collection of short stories HPJNH are idoms phrase and idiomatic expression. Idiomatic phrase has two formations, namely pharse of idiomatic verbal and nominal. Phrase of verbal idiom has one formation which combines of verb + naoun element. Idiomatic nominal phrase has two formations: (1) combined of noun + noun elements and (2) combined of the adjective + noun elements. Joint those elements of verb + noun idiom are full of types, such as mukakeun lawang kagaiban, while those contain halfidioms is tukar guling. Idiom of nominal phrase on the combined noun elements + other noun elements more massive using full idiom, such as pangupa jiwa, whereas other half-idioms, such as harkat jalma. Joint of those elements of adjective + noun tend to use full idiom, such as gede hulu, whereas half idioms, such as aki-aki nyentrik.
