Abstract

ABSTRACK One of the causes of developmental disorders of infants is the low quality of complementary foods (MP-ASI). To get good food quality, nutrition education is far more effective than food supplementation. The age of six months and over, children's nutritional needs are increasing and varied. Breastfeeding alone only meets 60-70% of children's nutritional needs. Therefore, in addition to breastfeeding, other foods as complementary foods are needed to support the nutritional intake. This research is a quantitative study with cross sectional approach that aims to determine the relationship of knowledge and perceptions of mothers about the provision of complementary feeding (MP-ASI) in infants aged 6-24 months at Rawasari Health Center in Jambi City 2016. Data collection was carried out using a questionnaire. The sampling technique used in this study is simple random sampling. The sample in this study amounted to 81 respondents. The results of the study were analyzed univariately and bivariately using the chi-square statistical test. The results of univariate analysis revealed that of 81 respondents, 51 (63.0%) respondents were not good in giving MP-ASI, 46 respondents (56.8%) had poor knowledge, 48 (59.3%) respondents had negative perceptions. Bivariate analysis shows that there is a significant relationship between knowledge variables with the provision of complementary foods (MP-ASI) with a p value of 0,000, and there is a significant relationship between the perception variables with complementary feeding (MP-ASI) with a value of p value 0,000. The conclusion of this study is that respondents are expected to continue to increase their interest and awareness in finding information about complementary foods (MP-ASI), so that they can get better for a better life.
