Abstract The research aims to improve the students’ writing skill on monolog text (Recount text and Narrative text) by applying a media called LSB (Little Smart Book) for the students of VIII-B MTsN Gondowulung Bantul in the academic year of 2015/2016. The research is a classroom action research that is done in two cycles. Every cycle consists of four steps. They are planning, acting, observing and reflecting.The result of the research showed that the implementation of LSB could improve the students’ English writing skill on monolog text (Recount text and Narrative text) of the students of VIII-B MTsN Gondowulung Bantul. The result of English writing test showed the improvement on the average mark which obtained 75,48 on the cycle I and rose to 76,94 on cycle II. This result has gained the target of the research that is 75. The students who achieved the minimal standart criteria also improved from 71% on cycle I to 80,6% on cycle II. It means the result of the research has gained the target of the research that is 80%. The result of the research also showed the improvement of students’ active participation in the classroom. The students’ active participation obtained 83,9% in cycle I and rose to 87,1% in cycle II. This indicated that the improvement of the students’ active participation in the classroom has gained the target of the research. Keywords: Writing skill, Writing test, LSB   Abstrak Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan menulis peserta didik pada teks monolog (Recount text dan Narrative Text) dengan menggunakan media pembelajaran LSB pada peserta didik kelas VIII-B MTs Negeri Gondowulung Tahun Pelajaran 2015/2016.  Penelitian ini menggunakan metode tindakan kelas yang dilakukan dalam dua siklus. Setiap siklus dilakukan dalam empat langkah yaitu perencanaan, pelaksanaan tindakan, observasi dan refleksi. Setiap siklus dilaksanakan dalam dua kali pertemuan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan media pembelajaran LSB dapat meningkatkan kemampuan menulis Bahasa Inggris pada monolog teks (Recount Text dan Narrative Text) pada peserta didik kelas VIII-B MTs Negeri Gondowulung. Hasil nilai rata–rata menulis mengalami peningkatan yaitu 75,48 pada siklus I dan 76,94 pada siklus II. Hasil ini sudah mencapai nilai target yang ditentukan dalam penelitian yaitu 75. Jumlah peserta didik yang mencapai ketuntasan mengalami kenaikan yaitu 71% pada siklus I dan 80,6% pada siklus II. Jumlah peserta didik yang mencapai nilai ketuntasan sudah mencapai target yaitu 80%. Tingkat partisipasi aktif peserta didik mencapai 83,9% pada siklus I dan 87,1% pada siklus II. Hasil ini menunjukan partisipasi aktif sudah melampaui target yaitu 85%.
