Abstrak - Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk: (1) Mengetahui motif-motif penyebab mahasiswa UMMAT menggunakan Facebook;(2) Implikasi penggunaan situs Facebook pada mahasiswa UMMAT. Pendekatan penelitian yang digunakan yaitu pendekatan deskriptif. Teknik analisis data meliputi pengumpulan data, reduksi, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan: (1) Motif mahasiswa menggunakan Facebook yaitu motif sosial, akademik dan mendapatkan keuntungan finansial, (2) Implikasi pada mahasiswa UMMAT bersifat positif dimana Facebook menjadi medium gerakan sosial baru berbasis media teknologi informasi dan komunikasi untuk mengusung aspirasi mahasiswa, menggalang dukungan, memperjuangkan hak-haknya kepada pihak terkait. Bersifat negatif, yaitu penggunaan Facebook secara berlebihan dapat mengganggu kinerja mahasiswa saat mengerjakan tugas.Abstract - This study aims ton (1) know the motives of UMMAT students in using facebook; (2) the implications of the use of facebookto UMMAT students. The research used a descriptive approach. Data analysis techniques are data collecting, reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. Result of the students are: (1) the motivies of the students in using facebook are to gain sosial, academic and financial benefits; (2) The implications on using facebook for them are positive and negative. The posistive implication are e.g facebook becomes a new sosial media to promote students aspirations, fight for his rights to the related parties. However, the negative one is the excessive use of facebook can disrupt the students attention.
