PAN ISLAMISME MENURUT JAMĀLUDDĪN AL-AFGHĀNĪ DAN MUḤAMMAD ‘ABDUH
Abstract
This research aims to analyze the comparison of the ideas of Pan Islamism Jamāluddīn al-Afghānī and Muḥammad ‘Abduh. Imperialism carried out by the West against Islamic countries has caused the Islamic countries to deteriorate. In the midst of this downturn, a figure named Jamāluddīn al-Afghānī appeared, inviting all Muslims to unite in facing Western domination, bury disputes, and learn the secrets of Western progress and power. The idea, given the term by the West as Pan Islamism. In line with Jamāluddīn al-Afghānī, Muḥammad ‘Abduh also had the same idea. However, even though Muhammad ‘Abduh agreed with Jamāluddīn al-Afghānī regarding the importance of Pan Islamism, but in reflecting on Pan Islamism, Muḥammad‘ Abduh did not all agree.
