Abstract

This article discusses the Qur’an view on a mother. The theme is studied as language analysis based on the vocabulary of the Qur’an which represents the term mother such as al-umm , al-Walidah, wâlidaini and abawaini. The words were used to look at the factors that underline their primacy and privilege of a mother in that she gets priority in attitude and ethical attribution. The research found that some factors supported the primacy of the role of a mother. Those can emerge from mother’s direct physical contact with the child, so that it creates a strong emotional connection between mother and child. In addition, some mothers’ stories in the Qur’an, such as the story of Moses’ mother and Maryam, also support the emerging primacy of a mother. The Qur’an describes the inner instinct mother that gets worried and anxious when a child is separated from her. Likewise, it denotes mother’s hope of salvation to the soul of the child and descendants through efficacious prayer
