REALISASI PEMENTINGAN INFORMASI PADA KALIMAT DALAM BAHASA INGGRIS
Abstract
To achieve the goal of using language, the speaker of alanguage is structuring the linguistic construction aseffective as possible. Moreover, he is able to modify thelinguistic construction based on the prominence of theinformation. By so doing, language will meet its function,serving as the tool of delivering message to the interlocutor.However, there are many ways to mark the importantinformation, such as supra-segmental, morphological, andsyntactic ways. Syntactic marking of information packagingis called syntactic choice. Thus, this paper aims atdescribing the ways to package important information inEnglish as one of widely spoken languages worldwide. Thisstudy belongs to descriptive qualitative study. The datawere taken from realiable sources, written or spoken bynative speakers. From the analysis, it is evident that Englishhas several ways of structuring prominent information andresulting in some noncanonical constructions, namelytopicalization, dislocation, cleft, existential, and so forth.Keywords: information; prominence of information;
