PANTUN DAN PEPATAH-PETITIH MINANGKABAU BERLEKSIKON FLORA DAN FAUNA
Abstract
Pepatah-petitih is Minangkabau proverbs which containsadvices and teachings from the elders. Every sentencefound in Minangkabau proverbs contains the Minangkabaubasic philosophy which is originally derived from thenature. The thought of Minangkabau people is based onnatural phenomena. Minangkabau people learn fromeveryday life environment. Sometimes the Minangkabauproverbs are presented in form of poetry. Poetry is the mostimportant kind of Minangkabau literature. It becomes atopic, kaba flowers, and ornate speech. Those poems andproverbs are Minangkabau traditional communityknowledge (local genius) in the past. This article aims todescribe the whole Minangkabau proverbs which containthe terms of flora and fauna and to explain the meaning ofthose proverbs. There are many terms of flora and faunafound in the proverbs of Minangkabau. The contents taughtus in doing good, patience, pituah, perseverance, and truth.They contain rules and high values for the benefit ofMinangkabau society.
