PERANAN KECERDASAN EMOSI DAN DUKUNGAN SOSIAL TERHADAP KESEJAHTERAAN PSIKOLOGIS SISWA SMP TERBUKA DI CIREBON

Abstract

This aim of this study is to investigate the psychological well-being of SMP Terbuka students which is predicted from their emotional intelligence and social support. The initial assumption of this study is that emotional intelligence and social support can influence the psychological well-being of SMP Terbuka students. The samples of this study are one hundred students of SMP Terbuka Cirebon that were taken by using cluster random sampling. There are three scales used as the research instrument in this study. First, the scale of psychological well-being which is based on the aspects of Ryff (1989). It consists of 30 items and shows that the values of correlation coefficient is 0.312-0.590, while the values of alpha coefficient is 0.887. Second, the scale of emotional intelligence which is taken from the aspects of the Goleman (2002). It consists of 29 items and shows that the values of correlation coefficient is 0.331 – 0.631, while the alpha coefficient is 0.897. Third, the scale of social support which is based on the aspects of Cohen and Syme (1985). It consists of 28 items and  shows that the values of correlation coefficient is 0,350 - 0,624, while the alpha coefficient is 0.895. The method of data analysis used in this study is multiple regression analysis. The result of regression analysis shows that F = 6.883, p = 0.001 (p <0.05) and R2 = 0.568 which means that emotional intelligence and social support can be used to predict the psychological well-being of SMP Terbuka students.
