HARMONI HUKUM ISLAM DAN TRADISI: PANDANGAN MUHAMMAD BIN ALAWI AL-MALIKI TENTANG HUKUM PERAYAAN MAULID NABI DALAM KITAB MUKHTASAR FI AL-SIRAH AL-NABAWIYYAH
Abstract
This research discusses the views of Muhammad bin Alawi Al-Maliki, a prominent scholar from Makkah, who is one of the scholars that explicitly supports the celebration of Maulid Nabi (the Prophet's birthday) in his book titled Mukhtasar fi al-Sirah al-Nabawiyyah regarding the celebration of Maulid Nabi SAW. The celebration of Maulid Nabi as a religious tradition has become a practice embedded in various Muslim communities, although it often sparks debates about its legal legitimacy. Using a qualitative approach, this study explores Muhammad bin Alawi's basis for providing both theological and sociological legitimacy to this practice. This research shows that Muhammad bin Alawi Al-Maliki views the celebration of Maulid Nabi not merely as a tradition, but as a form of expressing love for the Prophet Muhammad SAW and as a means to reinforce Islamic values within society. The results of this study contribute to contemporary discourse on the accommodation of Islamic law towards local religious traditions and their impact on communal harmony.
