History And Development Of Astronomy In World Civilization

Abstract

Astronomy, which in the plural is called Aflak is the oldest study that has existed since the formation of the universe. In this context, astronomy is a scientific discipline that scientifically and structurally studies the movement of celestial bodies, especially the moon and the sun, on their axis. Certain verses in the Qur'an, such as surah Al-Anbiya verse 33 and surah Yasin, specifically mention astronomy. The historical development of astronomy can be periodized into four phases: before Islam, in Islamic civilization, in European civilization, and in Indonesia. The civilizations of India, Persia, and Greece had a special influence in the birth of the Arab (Islamic) falak civilization.
