Makna Gunung Rinjani Sebagai Objek Spiritual Bagi Umat Buddha di Lombok Utara
Abstract
The issue in this research is the significance of Mount Rinjani as a spiritual object for Buddhists in North Lombok. Traditional ceremonies attract the community's attention, but they often do not understand the true meaning and purpose of these ceremonies. Many people participate or enliven the ceremonies without a deep understanding. This research uses a phenomenological qualitative approach. The subjects include priests, traditional leaders, and Buddhists in North Lombok. The study was conducted from August to October 2021. Data collection techniques included direct interviews and documentation. Data validity was ensured through credibility, increased persistence, triangulation, negative case analysis, use of reference materials, member checks, transferability, dependability, confirmability, data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing/verification. The findings indicate that Mount Rinjani, besides being a source of irrigation, also has Segara Anak Lake flowing from its peak. The purpose of worship at Mount Rinjani is to honor ancestors such as Telok Gontor and Grandmother Dasida Sik Power. Ancestors are believed to be everywhere, particularly at Mount Rinjani, the highest mountain in Lombok. Ceremonies include honoring ancestors and deities and washing heirlooms like keris, which possess supernatural powers. Dewi Anjani, the queen of the jinn who is believed to reside at the peak of Mount Rinjani, is considered the guardian of Lombok, providing fertility and preventing disasters.
