Qiraah Ibn Katsir al-Makki: One Meaning of Qur'anic Interpretation Among the Varieties of Recitation

Abstract

Variations in Qur'ānic interpretations are complex phenomena often influenced by a variety of factors. One of the main factors that contributes significantly to these variations in interpretation is the differences in Qur'ānic recitation, known as "qira'at.” In this context, one of the main figures in qira'at is Ibn Kathir al-Makki, who is known for his two main narrators, Qunbul and al-Bazzi, who played a crucial role in popularizing Ibn Kathir's recitation. This study aims to further explore Ibn Kathir al-Makki's recitation and analyze its impact on Qur'anic interpretation, with a particular focus on the narrations introduced by Qunbul and al-Bazzi. The research method used was library research, where the main source of data came from the relevant literature. The approach adopted was descriptive-analytical, which aimed to describe and re-verify the data found in the literature. The results of this study indicate that although qira'at plays an important role in the understanding of the Qur'an and can be significant in revealing the meaning of the Qur'an, there are situations where variations in readings between qira'at Imams do not always result in significant differences in Qur'anic interpretation. This demonstrates the complexity of the interpretive process and emphasizes the need to consider a wider context and other factors in understanding the Qur'ān.
