PEMBELAJARAN KERENTANAN SOSIAL: STUDY TERHADAP PEKERJA MIGRAN INDONESIA DI HONGKONG SAAT PANDEMI COVID-19
Abstract
When Covid-19 health pandemic has crossed over worldwide, migrant workers have standed in a vulnerable condition due to violations of migrants' rights, impartial policies and being far from the social space. The Covid-19 pandemic has placed migrant workers in increasingly layered conditions of vulnerability. This study aims to identify the vulnerability of Indonesian migrant workers in Hong Kong SAR, China, during the Covid-19 pandemic. Hong Kong SAR, China, is one of the favorite destinations of Indonesian Migrant Workers and also is closest to mainland China as the epicenter of Covid-19. This qualitative research with a case study approach involves virtual in-depth interviews with Indonesian migrant workers in Hong Kong SAR, China. In addition to interviews, data were also obtained from secondary sources from journal articles, research reports, and working papers. The results showed that migrant workers in Hong Kong SAR, China, during the Covid-19 pandemic experienced precarious conditions such as a heavier workload, violated rights and exclusion, and stigmatization. Therefore, Indonesian government representative should improve migration data by integrating from the downstream until upstream level and engage communities to distribute the emergency aids. In addition to that embassy has to increase their services by negotiating with the authorities for improving migrant rights condition and integration with Hong Kong SAR, China, communities.
