Kapata Arkeologi is a peer-reviewed journal which is published and imprinted by Balai Arkeologi Maluku, Pusat Penelitian Arkeologi Nasional, Balitbang-Kemdikbud. The first edition was published in August 2005 and managed to be issued twice in every volume. In each issue, electronic journal/ejournal edition published earlier than the print edition. Kapata Arkeologi comes from the term of 'Kapata' which is the Maluku language which means the tradition of telling historical events of the past in the form of poetry. In accordance with its meaning, the publication of Kapata Arkeologi is expected to become an instrument on disseminating various information related about culture of the past, based on the results of archaeological research and cultural studies. Kapata Arkeologi aims to promote archaeological research particularly in Maluku and North Maluku and generally in Indonesia, as well as disseminating the results to the public, including the researchers, academics, and the wider community. Kapata Arkeologi publish original research papers, review articles and case studies focused on archaeology, history, ethnography, and other disciplines related to humans and culture. All papers are peer-reviewed by at least two referees. Kapata Arkeologi accredited by Indonesian Institute of Sciene (LIPI) as national scientific journal number 678/Akred/P2MI-LIPI/07/2015. Since 2016, Kapata Arkeologi use Open Journal Systems in its management.
