Abstract

AL-Imam Al-Ghazali was one of the great minds and preachers of his time, even today. Among his well-known and widely followed thoughts is his thoughts on tasawwuf. And among the well-known notions of kesufian from him is about zuhud, as it is stated in his famous book "Ihya 'Ulumiddin" he divides the zuhud into three levels: first, the zuhud is driven by fear of the fires of hell. Zuhud in this level is the zuhud of the cowards. Secondly, zuhud is driven by the motive of seeking the enjoyment of life in the Hereafter. Zuhud in this level is the zuhud of people who hope to God on the basis of Hubbillah. Thirdly, the zuhud is driven by the desire to escape from the self-consciousness of what is other than God in order to rid himself of him and to underestimate what is besides Allah Almighty. Zuhud in this level is the attitude zuhud the 'arifin (those who reach ma'rifat) Keywords: Tasawwuf thought, Imam Al-Ghazali.
